In the afternoon, visit Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, Delhi’s most prominent Sikh shrine, instantly recognisable by its gold dome and sacred Sarovar (holy water tank) — and, if timing allows, its famous community kitchen, which serves free meals to thousands daily. Just down the road, Bapu Bazaar is the better stop for textiles — block prints, tie-dyed leheriya, leather mojaris.
For a souvenir with real roots, go for semi-precious jewellery from Johari Bazaar, or a piece of Jaipur’s signature blue pottery — not pottery at all, in fact, but ground quartz fired into vivid cobalt glazes found nowhere else in India.
Later, head to Dera Amer, a 180-acre wilderness camp run by the Singh family as a sanctuary for rescued elephants. Today you’ll fly to Udaipur — a short hop that saves hours over the road route (drivable, but we recommend flying to bank the time). Prefer fewer internal flights and a slower pace? Inside, room after room reveals the Mewar court’s artistic legacy — miniature paintings, coloured glasswork, mirror-inlaid walls, and antique furniture, alongside the dazzling Crystal Gallery, its chandeliers and crystal furniture sourced from F&C Osler of Birmingham in 1877 on the order of Maharana Sajjan Singh.
From there, continue on foot through the old city, where narrow lanes open onto shops selling textiles, silver jewellery, and hand-bound leather journals. Don’t miss the Jagdish Temple, a 17th-century Vishnu shrine completed in 1651 and still one of Udaipur’s most active places of worship, and Saheliyon ki Bari — the ‘Garden of the Maidens,’ built in the 18th century by Maharana Sangram Singh II for the queens and their attendants, with fountains, lotus pools, and marble pavilions still intact.

From there, wind through the Hanging Gardens and a Jain temple before ending the day at Chowpatty Beach — or, for something grittier, the antique-laden lanes of Chor Bazaar, Mumbai’s famous “thieves’ market.”
Prefer to see the city differently? Rise before dawn for a different Mumbai altogether: Dadar Flower Market, known locally as ‘Phool Gully’ (‘Flower Street’), where vendors arrive before sunrise with sacks of marigolds, roses, and jasmine, and the city’s famous newspaper-sorting trade kicks into gear nearby.
